Travel Tips

Travel tips .... This information is only a guide and does not constitute travel advice.

  By Road

The Charente is well served by the French road network.  Access times vary according to your port of entry.

See map of road routes

St Malo - 5 hours (see map)
Cherbourg - 6 hours (see map)
Caen - 5 hours (see map)
Le Havre - 6 hours (see map)
Calais/Le Shuttle - 6 hours (see map)

Check your route at Mappy.com

  By Rail

Eurostar and Rail Europe carry you all the way to the Charente.  Routes are via either Paris or Lille with connecting trains to the Charente area.  Be warned if you go via Paris in order to change trains you must also change stations.

From our experience we think the best route is London to Lille because you change trains but not stations. There are frequent trains to Angouleme.  There are car rental facilities at Angouleme station.

Contact Rail Europe here.

By Air

There are regular flights to Poitiers and Limoges via
RyanAir and a number of other small regional airlines fly to Angouleme and Poitiers.  Please consult independent airlines and travel agents for details. (Poitiers is 90 mins north and Limoges is 50 mins east of Chez Mesnier).  Click here for free Limoges Airport Guide.

  By Sea

Although the odds of anyone wishing to arrive by sea are slim, the nearest port(s) are around the La Rochelle area approximately 2½ hours from Chez Mesnier.
