Visitors Book
Here are all the comments from our visitors book.
08/09/07. A wonderful 2 weeks. Gary &
Carol are great hosts. Very peaceful. Didn't do half of what
we planned - too much time relaxing. Many thanks. David &
Marion, Wiltshire.
02/09/07.
Thanks for a wonderful holiday. Beautiful house and beautiful
surroundings, never tired of the views from our bedroom window each
morning, and the view of the stars at our 'fresco' meals. Enjoyed
our ventures out, when we managed to drag kids from pool. Kayaking
!!! What an experience. Thanks Gary & Carol a lovely couple,
great hosts xx
31/08/07.
Thank you for a lovely relaxing time. We have enjoyed looking out
onto the Limousin cattle and the river. We have had fun exploring
the area. Elizabeth, Alastair, Eve & James, North Yorks.
23/08/07.
Thanks for a lovely restful star gazing time in rural France. Lou
& Lorna, Chepstow.
20/07/07.
Thanks! We've had a very relaxed holiday exploring the local area
& chilling by the pool. What a lovely spot & lovely area.
13/07/07.
Dear Carol & Gary. Thank you so much for a really wonderful stay
in Hiboux. We were made very welcome indeed and enjoyed your
hospitality. The cottage is very pleasant, quiet and peaceful.
It was great watching the stars in the evening and hearing the birds
singing in the morning! We relaxed as a family in the tranquil
French countryside - and sampled much of the local produce, wine;
snails, Pineau, cheeses & cocktails! We were fortunate to meet a
lovely local family and also a wonderful family from Norway. The
drive to Angouleme took us to the biggest city during our stay.
The museum & art gallery was being renovated but my daughter said it was
good for shopping!! I enjoyed visiting the local Romanesque
churches (there are many) and many other sites. However, this is
onle holiday that you can enjoy just by being here at Chez Mesnier -
without the need to drive for entertainment. It is a perfect
location. The 'velo-rail' at Confolens was good fun with the
family. The Roman remains at Chassenon were worth a visit and also
a good look at La Vienne (river). We stayed for one week and in
many ways I regret that - I wished we had stayed for two!! A great
vacation - thank you very much and good luck with your future plans/
We will probably return to Chez Mesnier - it is a perfect location with
excellent hospitality and friendship.

Francine, Anouk, Lara & Danine, Amsterdam, Holland.
23/09/06.
This is a lovely, quiet location, and we have really enjoyed a mixture
of soporific days around the pool, and pootling through Confolens and
the surrounding area. Gary & Carol are helpful and knowledgeable
hosts, and we really admire the way you have both integrated so well
into the rural life of Manot. Robin & Kasia, Surrey.
15/09/06.
Our first visit and what a visit! Beautiful setting, gorgeous
countryside and wonderful hosts. Our thanks to Carol and Gary for
their generous natures (and wine!). Was lovely to meet Thierry,
Rose, Kevin & Cindy. Justin enjoyed his cycling and runs, I
enjoyed the wine & Pineau. Sebastian said he loved everything -
but particularly the monkey park. Thanks. Linda, Justin,
Sebastian & Benjamin, Callender, Scotland.
09/09/06.
Well, what a success you have made here. The location could not be
better, the hosts fab and the cottages perfect. We have had a
lovely time drinking, eating & swimming. You will see at least 2
of us again if not all. xxx. Philippa, David, Kate, Matt, Sarah,
Andrew, Freddi & Flossie, Kent.
19/09/06.
Our first visit to Haute-Vienne but definitely not our last. We
have thoroughly enjoyed our fortnight in rural France and have had great
fun exploring the area from such a lovely setting. We were
fortunate enough to be here for the festival in Confolens and
particularly enjoyed the procession and then a few days later the finale
with fireworks. The 'spectacle' in St Claud was magical and day
trips to Angouleme, the caves in Villars and the monolithic church in
Aubeterre particularly memorable. The children particularly
enjoyed the water park in Angouleme, and a visit to the memorial in
Oradour was moving for all of us. Thanks to Gary and Carol and all
the other guests for all the hospitality and information. John,
Jo, Hannah & Emma, Herts.
11/08/06.
This is our third year staying in the Holiday Cottages, and yet we still
found lots of new things to do! I rode a horse for the very first
time and swam all of the way to the other side of Manot river! I
really enjoyed our dinner party, seeing all of our French friends whilst
eating lots of yummy food!!! I really hope that we come back next
year. Thanks Gary & Carol for making it so fun. Briony, West
Sussex.
11/08/06.
OK it's my turn!
11/08/06. We were all really looking forward to this holiday and
it exceeded our expectations. A combination of a beautiful
location; comfortable house and Gary and Carol on hand for anything I
needed, be it how to find a doctor, supermarket or great day out.
Kids loved the monkeys, cows, lizards and crickets and had great fun on
the velo-rail and canoes. Manot beach was a hit too. What's
made our time here so memorable are the friends we've made. Gary
and Carol have been so hospitable and the other guests, great fun!
Lots of placed I'd still like to discover and others to revisit, so hope
to be back soon. Jane, Helena, Lloyd & Lorna, South Yorkshire.
04/08/06.
A really pleasant spot to recharge the batteries and spend some quality
time with the family. Very friendly 'neighbours' and good
hospitality from mine hosts! Highlights? Watching Grandad
Colin's legs going like pistons on the downhill stretch of the Velorail,
seeing an otter while canoeing (or was it a coypu, Gary?!), watching a
baby calf take his first steps and then, later, see the farmer try to
tag him, dinner at Hotel de Commerce, Roumazières, breakfast with
woodpecker, buzzard and heron and, of course, a glass or three of wine!
Oradour was very poignant. Horseriding lesson for Ben & Lucy was
their highlight. Thanks. Simon, Sue, Ben, Lucy, Grandad
Colin and Nanny Marilyn, Dorset.
29/07/06.
We had a laugh The beautiful surroundings We really enjoyed Dear Gary & Carol. Thank
you very much for looking after us. We really had such a wonderful
time. You are the perfect hosts! The Pineau and wine were
lovely. Thank you for making our stay extra special. Kim,
Matt, Tom, Brian & Jan, Buckinghamshire.
15/07/06.
A tremendous fortnight. Sunny and hot with the occasional dramatic
storm. We enjoyed good lively company and picnics by the river.
Limoges is a good city to visit and we recommend a trip to the Valley of
the Apes. Last and most importantly, many thanks to Carol and
Gary. We watched the World Cup Final together - "ah well, remember
1966". Carol and Gary are tremendous hosts and we will remember
their outstanding hospitality, their friendliness and their helpfulness
with all things French. We wish them every success. Helen &
Chris.
21/07/06.
Our thanks for a very relaxing, if alcohol induced, stay. We loved
the camaraderie the proximity of the houses induces but perhaps much of
this is due to Gary's ability to cruise by as the drinks come out -
bring a bottle?! more like bring a vat! Keep up the hard
work and let's hope not too many more whirlwinds cause you to 'panic' as
the wind gets up - enjoyable to see Gary moving fast undoing covers . .
. Our best wishes for the rest of the season and thank yous to
Carol & Gary. Gill, Paul, Steve & Claire, N Yorkshire. 21/07/06. Absolutely
brilliant - I think. Met many wonderful people, but cannot
remember who. Went to lots of interesting places, but cannot
remember where. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with superb hosts,
but cannot remember why. Keep getting flashbacks about monkeys,
pace-makers, frogs, red wine, oyster knives, French people, dibbles, red
wine, Cognac, courgettes, white tables and bleach, red wine and for some
overwhelming but unknown reason, groundhogs. Take care and keep
doing what you are good at. Happy partying and many thank yous.
Steve, Rita, Kelly, Stephen & Paul, Essex.
15/07/06.
A most enjoyable holiday in a lovingly restored and well equipped
cottage (les Hiboux) - weather gloriously hot & sunny all week - Daniel
and George particularly enjoyed the pool - trips out to Confolens & St
Junien a must, as is a swim in Lac Lavaud - not to mention the monkeys!
Gary & Carol made us feel most welcome and we would certainly consider a
future visit. Peter, Judy, Daniel & George, Leics.
05/07/06.
Une pour la route a la bar du sport a Gary et Carol (Cary et Garol!
Passe moi une autre bière!). As return visits go this couldn't
have been any better. Loved the spa like pool and the dawn chorus
of frogs, 'coqs' and cows! Many more fantastic memories for all
three of us. Clara (2) particularly loved the lizards - how kind
of you to provide them! Overall another superb fortnight.
'Bump' may prevent a return visit next year but I'm sure we'll be back!
Thanks to Thierry et Rose and family but particularly to Gary & Carol
for their generous hospitality. Lindsay, Ben, Clara & Bump,
Callander, Scotland.
13/06/06.
Dear Gary & Carol. Thank you very much for a lovely stay at River
Cottages. You made us feel so welcome and a truly wonderful touch
arriving to find beautiful flowers, champagne & chocolates! Our
holiday has rounded off our wedding to perfection in such relaxing
surroundings. Sorry to leave without saying goodbye in person but
we must make our way to Vendome to visit Collette and family before
heading to Calais tomorrow. Say goodbye to your parents Gary, we
hope you mum makes a speedy recovery. Wish all our good wishes to
Thierry, Rose & family who also made us very welcome. Steve &
Jayne.
14/06/06.
Lovely place, lovely weather, lovely country. Thanks. James,
London SW15.
24/04/06.
Had a very enjoyable week here recharging the batteries. Good
fishing and very child friendly. Wonderful hospitality, and great
location amongst unspoilt countryside. The cottages are authentic,
very sympathetically restored and full of character. Oliver
(4) had a great time exploring and looking for frogs in the pond; and
having rides on Gary's tractor. Weather was excellent and we even
managed a swim. Thanks Gary & Carol for a wonderful holiday.
Ali, Oliver & Pauline, Manchester.
17/09/05.
All the benefits of France with great hosts. Thanks for being so
child friendly!! We loved the monkeys & the cows. A great
evening spent down on the river - only 3 little fishes but wild life
fantastic!! Look forward to a lesson in French construction.
Chris, Hayley & Caitlin, Berks
10/09/05.
Beautiful area, enjoyed lazy days by the pool. Interesting
cottages, friendly hosts & cat! We've had fun exploring a new area
of France. Merci beaucoup. Zoe & Richard, Wimbledon.
10/09/05.
Lots of good places to visit - Confolens, Rochefoucauld, St Junien +
abseiling at Champagne Mouton + many other villages to visit. Here
only 1 week - so could not try all the local dishes - better luck next
time. Weather was great - good wine & Val even went for a swim.
Parking at Angouleme was difficult but an excellent market! We
bought some excellent 'huitres' at Roumazières market and tried also a
free sample. The local populace seem to accept visiting Brits -
which is très bien. Chris & Val, Farnborough.
03/09/05.
A wonderful week - lots of fun for the kids and even relaxing for their
parents! We loved the tranquility, the river, the pool, the stars
(esp shooting ones) and all those satellites! - oh, and the wine!
Thank you Carol and Gary for being such wonderful hosts - a la prochaine!
John, Carolyn, Hannah & Benjamin, Surrey.
12/08/05.
I've had a great holiday swimming, sunbathing, canoeing, cow-stroking,
eating a meal that lasted EIGHT HOURS! During which my dad fell
off his chair and I got soooo embarrassed.
I will never forget this holiday for the beautiful area; fantastic
weather, your lovely (if similar to the Crazy Frog) neighbours (OOH!
AAH!) and . . . well, everything! You have been great hosts, thank
you. I hope you all have as great a time as I did! Alex,
Wimbledon.
12/08/05.
Everyone is so friendly, the neighbours I would like to take home!
We have even had to chase a couple of cows down the road!! Pool
great, wine exceptional and the runny camembert has no words.
Thanks. PS - to all future holidaymakers here: perhaps not a good
idea to "dance" on the gravel when drunk. Avoid Lionel on such
occasions!
12/08/05.
Carol Carotte she loves her legumes. Papi loved his Marie-Laure Velo rail and kayaking
12/08/05.

particularly meeting the local people and eating at the local
restaurants. Jean & Ted, Devon.

We have had a very different holiday than usual. It has been
great. Good weather, food, wine and company. It has been
really nice to meet the French families and share in their way of life.
Thanks Carol and Gary - you have been great hosts and have been able to
give us lots of local knowledge. Jack & Ann, Berkshire.
July 05.
We love it here! The river, Manot beach, the views, the sense of
freedom. The most relaxing and beautiful place. Thank you so
much for a wonderful holiday. We have had some wonderful days out
and the holiday went all too quickly. The boys actually spent time
'en plein air' for once in their lives!!! Gary and Carol are
fantastic, kind
and hospitable and know lots about the local
area and places to visit. We want to come back (move in
permanently)! Merci beaucoup mille fois

rest of the season. Sarah, Mark & Molly, Surrey.

The "Senior Members" of the Jackson Six! Great holiday. Very
relaxing. Weather not overly kind to us but Gary & Carol will tell
you all about that! They made us very very welcome and could not
have been more helpful. Canoeing a must; as is the Repas (but
don't organise anything for the following day) ((or two!!))
Fishing marvellous. For those interested, try Chabanais near the
bridge and car park on left as you go over. All in all, a great
time. Excellent hosts. Lovely cottage. Very relaxing
holiday. Other guests beware of Thursday nights. Ditches tend to
jump out at you. Hope to see you again. Carol & Graham,
Peterborough.

Lovely, relaxing week. Enjoyed long days by the pool. visit
to Oradour-sur-Glane was moving (need not be disturbing for children).
Vallée des Singes is well worth the visit - beautifully kept, monkeys
roaming free amongst the visitors, some interesting talks. Thanks
to Gary and Carol. Very welcoming and friendly, full of ideas on
things to do and where to go. David, Helen, Tom & Bryn, Hants.
06/08/04.
I've partied with the mayor, nearly died on the velo-rail, eaten
Camembert until it came out of my ears! Panned for gold
(unsuccessfully
